how much to hire magician for children’s party in Sydney

Not all magicians in Sydney are created equal

For starters the term magician is overused

theres full time magicians who have been magicians for a decade, and thats all they do- magic shows sometimes with Balloon animals but the core of what they do is Magic

and then there are magicians who just left high school or who are back packers looking for a couple of hundred dollars on a weekend they have been trained by some agency to do a few tricks and they are given a fancy costume and marketed as magicians

You can tell which agencies sell the crap magicians because they

  • Never mention names
  • you'll see no video evidence
  • very very rarely will you see a photo of the person turning up
  • no reviews of individual entertainers who are turning up to your party
  • they will also do games, singing, face painting- anything really to fill the time
because they don't have an act that can go at least an hour

The truth is the good magicians for kids parties (the ones worth hiring) DO NOT WORK THROUGH AGENCIES Let me repeat that good magicians for kids parties (the ones worth hiring) DO NOT WORK THROUGH AGENCIES

So what do Good magicians charge:

for say a 1 hour birthday party you'd be looking at $325 to $450 anything more and they are taking you for a ride

Christenings and holy communions cost a little more.

Are the $450 magicians better than the $325 magicians

No, Price in the kids party market is not an accurate representation of how good a magician is strangely enough

There are magicians who only want to do 2 shows a day- no more so they charge higher
these magicians might have a normal job, or getting older, or just plain lazy, Magic may be a second income for them so they charge higher and if they don't make a sale its OK they have their prime income

Where as other magicians business model is to do as many shows they can a day- they lower their fee to make it easier to book them

Some Magicians havce a live bunny so their show will cost more due to they have to take care and transport the bunny safely.

the reasons above have nothing to do with quality of the show

Aardy from kids magic world charges $325 for his birthday parties
he has the following credentials:

  • he is the only magician in Sydney to win a merlin award (These are the world wide magicians oscars voted by 43000 world wide members if the International Magicians society)
  • 26 years in business and still going strong
  • has a film coming out in 2026 about making Uluru vanish in the worlds largest illusion dwarfing David copperfields statue of liberty vanish
  • never had a review under 5/5 in 26 years

and yet charges less, he doesn't have a family to support so he can charge less but the quality of his show has taken him around the world-

So price isn't always a measure of how good the show is, spending more only means you are spending more.

Can't afford $300 for a show?

Our recommendation is don't book one- the ones that are cheap or do 101 different activities are garbage magicians- school leavers or back packers who's only doing it for the $100 they are getting from the agent (who is probably charging you $330)

your better off spending it on a better birthday present

Saving over $200 when booking magicians

So how do you save $200 when booking a magician for your party?

Dealing direct will be cheaper than via an agency and I'll break down the math for you

Legally now Agents need to provide superannuation to their entertainers

So lets say you book a magician who's fee is $325 if you book direct
agents need to pay super which is +12 percent which would be +$39
Agents at this time are charging $364 and have not made a cent
So will charge an additional $200 making this Magician now $564

If you are going to spend $300+ get your moneys worth

Heres where an agency advertises to find entertainers
on school leaver websites and for those still at school.

and yet when you look at their prices

you pay $387 for an entertainer who's only getting $85 to turn up
$302 is going to the guy on the phone taking the booking (the middle man).

The 2 hour program you pay $527- the entertainer gets $105 and you pay the middle man $422

you're better off booking an entertainer direct who is worth $325

While not all entertainment agents do this- many of them do especially the ones where they cannot name the entertainer who's turning up or they have no specific photos or video- they are simply rostered to your event a week or so before your event.

Want to get your money's worth?

Consider booking Aardy the Kids Magician who has not raised his prices in 5 years
Starting from as low as $325
Nothing more to pay- no middle man, no super- one fee only.
